The
soil is very important. The variants of terroir according to
the soil, the exposure to the sunshine, the protection or
not towards the dominant winds are the parameters of this
variety of produced wines.
The production is from 2 to 2.2 million hectoliters on a
territory 200 km long on 60 km wide.
What should we call these wines : Cotes du Rhone or wines of
the Rhone valley ? The Rhone valley is geographically
perfectly identified by the foreigners. The Cotes du
Rhone wines are the reference for the Rhone valley.
