... 1962
Not surprisingly Emile
Bories was elected Lord Mayor of Aïn-Tellout: small village
between Tlemcen and Sidi-Bel-Abbès, Emile brings to the
army his help and his knowledge of the Arabic language and
of the Algerians. The permanent presence on the domain
discourages the conflicts in its district where he enjoys
besides an incomparable respect, as with his workers as with
the population. Then in 1959, the situation deteriorating in
Algeria, it is of Aïn-Tellout that Emile leaves in campaign
appointed by his father and his cousins Margnat.
Emile sells the property of Sainte Marie (in Algeria) to try
to reinvest them in Corsica. After nine months of studies
and too numerous disappointments, Emile knows Corsica better
than one Corsica will ever know it ... . But it is forced to
abandon this project and returns then to Mostaganem. Then
Emile makes the only professional error of his life he
acquires with the money of Sainte Marie an estate in Tassin
(at 6 km of Aïn-Tellout!!!) The terrible events follow and
the reason Emile survives is because he always liked this
country and his inhabitants, and that he always did the
'good', not the charity even if he was generous, no, the
'good', what was just and useful, and in the best way that
it could be, sort of beautiful work! And he was respected
for that.
On 1962, the Algerian obtained their independence and look
for weapons still in ownership of the European. Emile
receives the order to hand back his weapons to the
authorities. Gérard and Michel Medina on the spot, worry a
lot, because the idea roams that the owners latecomers will
be killed with their own weapons. Emile obtains, finally a
licence to circulate and starts for Aïn-Tellout. A
roadblock to Sidi-Bel-Abbès seemed to him a little bit
suspicious. Someone obliges him to leave the main road and
to borrow a small road which takes away from the city.
Farther, a man forces him to stop, to sign a bill of sale of
its car; at that time Emile is sure to have been kidnapped
by illegal forces and he remembers himself that last week, a
colonist was knifed on this same road. He signs without
hesitating the surrendering of his car hoping so would
save his life.... But in the rear-view mirror he perceives
the man who is behind him and who takes out of its djellaba
a revolver with the very likely intention to kill him. Then
he plays the whole for the whole, and with his imperfect but
local colored knowledge of the arabic language, he explains
to this man " that he is going to kill a just man who,
all his life was a good boss " his interlocutor answers
him that his mother was too a just woman and that the
Frenchmen killed her … Then Emile said to him " if
you are sure that your mother is going to return to approve
you... you can kill me also " and the man to answer him
" You are a brave man! We are going to take back you at
home, but we keep your car because we have a French guy to
be fetched to Bou Anifia, we shall be looking for you
tomorrow! "... And, the next day, in spite of the fears
of his workers and having returned weapons Emile took
Mostaganem.'s road with his kidnappers of the day before...
Without more fear. Some days after Emile thinks of
organizing the repatriation of all his family. He will do
numerous movements to France.
