At the end of the war and
back in Algeria, Emile exercises his first job as a wine
trader in very close relations with his cousins of the
family Margnat in Marseilles. The suite of Emile's route is
rich in activities. President of wine docks in Mostaganem ,
position that he will occupy during his last years in
Algeria, succeeding his father who was the President of it
and founder in Octobre1950. From these docks he could load a
boat of 800.000 gals. in some hours by means of a pipeline.
After the premature death of his brother Raymond, Emile
agrees to replace him for the management of Aïn-Tellout and
he upgraded the production from 40.000 gals. in 1953 to 250
000 gls. in 1959. This remarkable increase of production was
made possible by the plantation of supplementary 185 acres
over 5 years. These 185 acres will have to be gained on the
rocks. Emile then invites nomads to come with all their
families from south territories and install them on a bare
territory : 40 men, as many women and about forty small
donkeys. Emile arranges the men throughout the freshly
opened furrow, at 3 m of distance of each other, the women
waiting at the end of furrow. At every passage of the
plough the men collect the stones which they load in the
" chouaras " of their donkeys; a blow on croup of
the donkey and he leaves to join his mistress who will
release him from the stones to form a wall of it, another
blow on croup and the donkey returns towards his boss to
renew the operation and this during 2 months. Soon will rise
a wall which will reach 3 m of base, on 4 m of height. Emile
will call it " the great wall of China ". Two
years later, learning that a construction company looks for
stones. Emile proposes them his " wall of China ".
OK, say the entrepreneurs but... it would be necessary to
sort out the stones, tuff on one side, and flint on the
other one. Once these stones sold ... the rest was ready for
a new destination. Emile does not disarm. He interests a
company that builds roads, but this one has also its
requirements... this company will take only the crushed
stones …
